b) processing- Develop pinhole film and make contact print.
b) Familiarise with assigned enlarger in darkroom- Create photogram, expose, test and print final on photographic paper.

Unit 3 35mm film
a) The zone system.
b) Available light photography with 35mm film camera working with grey card and zone system (VSS can supply camera), and do exposures for zone system calibration on grey card.

Sunday 16 July 9:00

Unit 4 Process and print film
a) Load and process film with fine grain developer.
b) Do zone calibration on process.
c) Contact print available light photos.
d) Evaluate and enlarge chosen images using various contrast papers.

Sunday 16 July 14:00

Unit 5 Medium format
a) Medium format theory.
b) Take studio portraits with medium format camera (own or use schools Hasselblad) for optimal detail.
c) Load and process film with fine grain developer.
c) Contact print studio (medium format) photos.
d) Evaluate and enlarge chosen images using various contrast papers.

Visual Skills School Darkroom course large format camera

 

This course is aimed at the discerning photographer who practises photography as an art form with the printed image as a testimony to the photographer’s creativity.
The archival darkroom print is the most acceptable medium to represent the photographer/artist at art galleries worldwide.
The course is conducted over 2/3 weekends at VSS Creative College, Pretoria which boasts the biggest comprehensive B & W darkroom in SA.
Because of the intensity of course we can only accept 6 delegates.
Course is presented by Hein Waschefort

a) Set up 4x5 large format camera on location.

c) Shoot building using tilt and shift.

Unit 10 Analogue to digital
a) Load and process film with fine grain developer.
b) Contact print 4x5 portraits and architecture.
c) Digitise 5x5 negatives with high end scanner.
d) Workflow in Photoshop for ultimate results.

Unit 11 The fine print & Presentation
a) Do archival A3 final print on fibre based paper for exhibition.
b) Use dodge and burn technique.
c) Prepare and mount photos using professional bevil cut outs.

Unit 13 Final darkroom printing and mounting in own time (optional)
